Winter Literature Inspired Activity Pack

This pack is full of fun activities your children are sure to enjoy, perfect for homeschooling, winter break, and Montessori preschools. We are excited to share it with you.

❄️ What Montessori says about hands-on, literature-based seasonal activities: Maria Montessori believed that children learn most deeply when all the senses are engaged and when learning is connected to the real world around them. Seasonal activities, especially those tied to beloved stories, satisfy both principles at once. They ground abstract concepts in concrete, meaningful experience. Research on embodied cognition (Wilson, 2002, Psychonomic Bulletin and Review) confirms that physical, hands-on activities produce stronger memory encoding than passive instruction. A 2015 study in Early Childhood Education Journal found that children who engaged in literature-based multi-sensory activities showed significantly greater story comprehension and vocabulary retention than those who listened to stories without accompanying activities.

We are continuing the theme of activities inspired by popular wintertime children's books. We would love to see photos of your family enjoying the pack on our Facebook page.

About This Pack

This pack is full of great Montessori-inspired works. There are over a dozen projects you can easily incorporate into your homeschool day. Use them in your classroom, daycare, or co-op as well. This month we have activities for children ages two and up, and activities that multi-age groups of children can work on together. There are even some we think adults will enjoy.

The majority of the activities in this pack are open and go with no prep work required. You will need to gather some supplies for a few of the works, but most should be things you already have around the house. If you live in an area that does not get snow, or you prefer not to use snow for the snow ice cream project, you can blend ice in a blender for the same effect.

We hope you enjoy these fun activities! We think they will help you experience these classic children's books in a whole new way.
